I'm Going to Graceland, Memphis Tennessee

I'm not trying to spread an earworm...

As Mr. Simon sang so well "In Graceland Graceland,
                                              I'm going to Graceland,
                                              For reasons I cannot explain
There's some part of me wants to see Graceland"

Strange, isn't it?  It was always a place I never thought I'd go see, and yet tomorrow morning we'll be driving down to Nashville (eighteen hours or so, not too bad).  We are attending a conference for a week, and then we tour.  It should be interesting since we've never been in that part of the States.

I can't believe that I'll be seeing this. In person.  It seems almost supernatural and yet...  I'm sure the place will be a zoo, since this year is his thirty-fifth anniversary of his passing.  I still remember that day, how it was all over the news, how many people were crying and even if I was quite young, I remember feeling somewhat sad.  How weird is that to morn someone you've never actually met?  Or to love someone this much, to this day, some people are still nuts about him.

I do enjoy his movies, still, even if they are lame and always the same formula, but that was his style; a few fights, romance, singing.  Because of his movies, I've dreamed of going to Hawai'i.  I don't know how many times I've seen "Blue Hawai'i", I know all the songs by heart. Just like "Dirty Dancing" I never get tired of watching it.

When I think of how my husband was dressed for our wedding, on a beach in Hawai'i, I can't help but think Elvis had a little something to do with it.  Not only did Hubby dressed like him in the movie, which is traditional Hawaiian, with the red sash and all, we exchanged leis and even had a singer singing the "Hawaiian Wedding Song". That was twelve years ago on Saturday...

To this day, I still can't hear this song without remembering our beautiful beach wedding, the two of us, barefoot in the sand, surrounded by our friends.  What a day.

We're planning to have a nice dinner at the "Old Hickory Steakhouse" at the Gaylord Opryland in Nashville. I just hope I'll be able to understand the southern accent, and that they'll be able to figure out mine!  On that note, time to finish my luggage, if I want to go hog wild.  'Night y'all!

"Woah in Graceland Graceland Graceland
I'm going to Graceland"

May your pilgrimage be enjoyable, and your visit to The King be everything you imagine it could be. (now if only something could bring you to Florida someday) :-)
