A little Spam with that?

A few days ago I received a message from “Confidential Message” and it was entitled “Attention Work”.

When I previewed this email, I was a bit taken aback by it. The spammers are really getting creative and personal. I do get a lot of crap via e-mail, mostly for drugs, penis enlargement, etc. This one surprised me. It was sent to my “formal” address – the one I use for business.

Every time I read or hear about some one that got ripped off by a con artist for money or whatever else, I can't help to wonder how can people fall for that. It seems so obvious to me. I’m not saying that I’m above it all. Maybe because I’m married to a geek who doesn’t trust anyone and is anal when it comes to security and privacy issues. Or because I hear about this plague almost every day, I don’t know. It just seems unreal that one would get caught in this web of lies. And yet, when I received this message it touched a nerve, and I can only imagine someone who’s alone and feeling vulnerable how it could affect him or her. The way it’s worded makes it sound like they care, that they want my best, and yet it’s for me to go on this site and get some type of pills, etc. Sad! Very sad! And even more sad that that someone will get caught by this…

Here is the message:

Hi, I hate to be the one to mention this, but people at work are talking about your weight issue and it just disgusts me. Whether you know it by now, people are always chattering about each other at work but you come up more than enough. I feel the right thing to do is to let you know now before this gets worse. I wasn't the happiest or best-fit a year ago or so but I managed to change that thanks to my sister-in-law(of all people). Anyhow, it was for the best.
What I am saying is that you need to do something different and maybe you can make the same difference I did. Try this stuff I used. I took it on the idea it's just more junk but it worked great. I see more positive reviews on it nowadays and makes me feel even better. So, I am encouraging a change, not only in the chatter around here but in you personally if you are willing.

Here is the website below I order from. (Which I will not post!)

Don't you think this is just plain mean? I do. They will use every emotional angle to get us. This is simply playing with people's self-esteem... no wonder some people can not resist and do answer... poor "victims".

Holy Crap! That's a new one on me, I'm still getting the same old stuff from those helpful Nigerians. I guess it was inevitable that the spammers would change tactics because most people are getting wise to them. It's pretty shitty to use the weight angle though.

I am so sick of spam! I get all kinds - alot for dating sites, and I too, could help a Nigerian, but that one takes the cake!
Depending upon my mood, I would either laugh or cry if I got one of those...

OUTRAGEOUS !!! One I've been getting lately & personalized to my email address and name, is from various banks advising me of security issues with my bank account. I don't even have any association with the so called banks sending me those emails !!! What is the purpose ? People really don't have anything better to do with such a valuable thing as "time" ?

As far as such a sensitive issue as preying on ones weight problems...that's simply gone to far. Sigh....

That is just horrible.
I, too, get a lot of spam, offering me all sorts of stuff (some pornographic). I am so over it, but what on earth can we do about it ??? Wish I knew the answer.
Take care, Meow

I am mortified! That is just incredibly invasive and horrible.

I hate spam. I just cleaned out my spam folder and there was even one that claimed to be undeliverable mail. I get PayPal, eBay and other ones that look respectable, too. So predatory.

The one you got is the worst. Absolutely.

Anonymous - they want you to verify personal info or input some so they can steal your identity. Good thing you are aware! I get those, too. Bastards! I feel sorry for older people who don't really know (like my MIL)

Just when you think they can't sink any lower. Aargh.

princess: You got that right!

ananke: It's a good thing I don't worry "too-too" much about that...

biddie: The day I got that message I didn't know how to feel about it either... it was just too weird.

mousse: As long as you don't answer them, you're ok - and you know your cuz wouldn't be happy with you if you were to become a victim of such a prank ;-)

meow: Maybe that should be our next venture? How to "really" counter spam!

wreckless: Very low indeed.

paisley: Like Biddie said, on a bad day that would have "hit home" pretty bad.

lizgwiz: Makes you wonder how low they are willing to go, doesn't it?

i've got to the point where if i dont know the sender of an email, i delete it without opening it, cuz i'm obsessed about not getting a virus on my computer. Also, after all the warning, i can't believe that there are still people that will enter their bank details in an email... crazy.

That particular spam was very mean, and if you think ahbout it, there must be people that create spam for a living. Scum.

I'm with plump pigeon. If I don't know who it's from, I don't even open it (as you know - I denied your IM before I realized it was you - HA!)

This is totally disgusting - playing on people's insecurities. SPAM SUCKS!

p pigeon: oh, I do the same - never open something I don't know especially with attachment. Yeah there is lots of scum out there, never really thought about them doing that as a job though... hum.

pg: yeah, I remember, screening my ping! ;-) Spam does suck , that's for sure!
