July is almost over and in case you haven’t noticed, so far this month all my posts were food related (as well as Marius’ who played along, thanks Marius!). A little while back I thought of something and figured people wouldn’t be interested, so I didn’t mention it.
Last week, I saw this meme on Brave Astronaut’s blog where one question was about his favourite candy bar. He also had a link to a little test, where you were asked if you could recognize a candy bar by seeing its middle. I did the test, thinking I knew my candy bars, to only realised that I knew Canadian candy bars. So, it got me back to this idea I had.
Also, last week a bunch of bloggers participated in “Blog share” where bloggers post anonymously on a fellow blogger’s blog. I’ve read a few (there were too many for me to read all) and it brought back that idea of mine (no Marius, this has nothing to do with what has been brewing, just so you know, in case you’re wondering).
Here’s goes: We all have favourite snacks or treats from our childhood or current that we just love and often they are very “local”. Since I’m curious about food in general I thought we could do the opposite of a “food fight”: let’s do “food surrender”! We could send each other any snacks, sweets and candy bars you guys enjoy, your local treats and “exchange” or “swap” with what we people “up here, North of the Border” have. I’ve referred to “Whippet” in a title not long ago, and was asked was it was. No it wasn’t the dog, but delicious cookies!
I’m thinking it could be a fun tasting experiment. What do you think? Would you be willing to participate in this "Food Surrender"of mine?

Count me in! I heart food.
My only concern is that I don't know what snacks aren't available in Canada, so I'm scared I'd just send you stuff you already knew.
I am up for it!
Now, I have to pick a favorite huh? I have A LOT I like....hmmmm
yum!
The candy test was fun! I got 13 right and 7 wrong.....I know my chocolate! lol Thanks for posting that!!! :)
As long as nobody ends up paying import taxes, right, stinky? Hee.
Sounds fun!
OK, I'm in. Sounds like fun. Maybe I will get some Lion Bars out of this. You have those up there? :)
i'll do it but i'm with lara, wouldn't really know what is local to us or available everywhere...i'm sure i can find something.
I'm in. :)
I will so totally do this. By the way... whenever I am in Canada, I buy Canadian candy bars. They don't have Aero bars down in the States! Mmmmm...
*glees* sound good to me!! Though I'll have to find some amazing English only choc to send!
You're absolutely right about thinking you knew your chocolate bars....I thought I did too !!! I failed quite miserably...but had a good time doing so. Now it's left me so in the mood for chocolate...especially for my all time favorite Canadian chocolate bar: Cadbury's Snack Bar - by far, one of the very best chocolate bars every created, and sadly yanked off the market for many years ago - darn. !!!
lara: Yay!
Don't worry, we have to keep it simple and try to send stuff we enjoy, so if we both like Kit Kat bars, then we will both enjoy our "surprise"!
periwinkle: Cool! That's the fun part, picking or maybe not... ;-)
Glad you enjoyed that test.
lizgwiz: Yeah really! Remember it's a GIFT, no value! ;-)
brave a: Nice! Never seen a "Lion Bars", sorry... but we have other goodies! ;-)
princess: I'm sure you can as well! I trust your imagination! ;-)
pg: Nice!
mr.social: There you go, giving me ideas!
pigeon: Doesn't have to be chocolate you know, but that's always good! ;-)
mousse: I remember those they were good, you're right!
Well, i did that quiz and i have heard of hardly any of those bars! What the bleeding hell is a whachamacallit??? Quite like the sounds of a Heath bar.
And when in hell does a Milky Way have caramel in it?? It doesn't!! Not in this neck of the woods, anyway.
And i thought that Chocolate bars such as nestle and cadburys were universal. Im shocked and appalled!
pigeon: That is why I wanted to do this, because I think the "same" things are different in different places.
I also "noticed" the Heath bar ;-)
I want to do this so bad! Yes X 1,000,000!
I'd love to do this!
My only concerns are import taxes like lizgwiz said (often an issue over here) and whether things would last the distance!
I know we have lots of things you don't, and vice versa.
Mousse, we still have Cadbury Snack Bars over here, I wonder if they're the same? Although Cadbury's and Nestle are worldwide, their recipes are different in different countries.
monkey: Figured you might! ;-)
cinnamon: Glad to have you onboard! Snacks from way way down... yay!
