"He's not dead, he's still breathing..."

What a night! I was ready to demonstrate my best ears because at times the English accents can be a little rough (at least for me) but I must say I just luuuuuuv it! We had good seats and were anticipating Mr. Cleese's entrance when this guy got up on stage and announced a change of program. WTF?

Mr. Cleese had fallen ill and couldn't host Britcom Gala. He then proceeded to let us know that being the professional high class act that he was, he would prolong his stay in Montréal and since he was recovering (from some type of infection, he has been diagnosed with prostatitis, the inflammation of the prostate gland and is undergoing treatment) he would offer another show on Sunday evening.

We had to be patient and await the replacement act for Mr. Cleese, comedian Lewis Black, not English but who just got back from England. Ok then…

Turns out Mr. Black was really good, and the other people were really funny as well. The line up included: Mark Watson (did a “local” joke about a street name, hilarious!), Gina Yashere (whatever she said about the accent was right), Idiots of Ants (the least funny as far as I’m concerned), Ross Noble (man! that guy is non-stop, I was dizzy by the time he got off the stage), Jim Carr (total opposite of Noble) and Danny Boyd (also really funny).

You can read all about it here, in our local newspaper.

Overall a great evening and can’t wait to see what’s in store for us on Sunday evening…

Lewis Black is one of my favorite comedians, although I fear one day he's just going to explode on stage. Glad you had a fun evening.

I follow Cleese on Twitter and he tweeted this morning something to the extent of "reports of my death are greatly exaggerated."

Lewis Black is a nice bonus. He's very funny in an angry kind of way.

Hope Sunday lives up to the anticipation

Too bad about Cleese, but a good time was had anyway. PLUS, there's Sunday to look forward to . . .

Sounds like fun...really. Lewis black is an acquired humor...not a lot of "belly laughs" but very intense...

I hope Mr. Cleese is better soon. Always look on the bright side of life.....
(whistle here!)

Glad you had a nice night. I hope the show with Mr. Cleese will be even better now that he can make fun of the hospital stay, the doctors, the death rumors, etc. etc....

Hugs!!

I love stand up comedy but it can be so hit or miss. Lewis Black makes me laugh though - I love someone who can rant in a hilarious but thoughtful way.

I thought the story about the prostatitis was going to turn out to be part of the show. As in, Cleese would suddenly appear, all outraged that the announcer was telling everyone about his plumbing. But how great that you get to see two shows! It kind of makes up for the Benigni non-starter.

Marius: Thanks, he is a little scary to watch.

BA: Funny that Cleese Twitter, ha!

Charlie: A good time indeed

morethan: VERY intense!

GEM: He did not mentioned anything about his hospital stay.

greenduckies: That gala was all hits, which is rare.

Monkey: We're good people, you know? ;-)

flurrious: We did think of Roberto B. when they announced the absence of Cleese... but then it all worked out.
