‘Tis the last day of November. Unreal.

I wanted to do our Christmas tree, but I was vetoed since it wasn’t even December. Ok, fine. It will be next weekend. Ha!

All my parcels were mailed and are on their merely ways. I also wanted to mail my overseas Christmas cards. I had made nice little envelopes, decorated them and all. This year our cards are little ones; I thought it would be different. Everything was stamped ($1.65 for International) and ready to go. The lovely post worker, after saying how nice and well organized everything was, measured the cards. They weren’t fitting in their standard dimensions, thus each card was going to be $3.10. I made her repeat what she had said and couldn’t believe it. Last year some cards were returned for insufficient postage, because our cards were too big, and now this! Can you believe that Canada Post was going to charge me an extra $1.45 per card sent? I sure couldn’t. I thanked her and took everything back. I did send the parcels, which in the end was quite expensive as well, but what the heck, it was cheaper than delivering them, and I wanted to send those gifts, so I did just that.

When we returned home I sat at my desk, took each card one by one, and unglued its stamp. I then took a regular size envelope, addressed it and re-glued the stamp. It took me a while to do it, but I did some also while watching television. I also had a bunch to do for our local friends and relatives. Screw you, Canada Post and your dimension rules for a friggin’ flat envelope. It’s costly enough as is to send those cards; I wasn’t about to pay an extra, no siree! If you receive an envelope containing my Christmas card inside, you’ll know why. It’s all Canada Post’s fault!
Which reminds me, I should tell you a lovely story about me.

One day, long, long ago, there lived a woman who did not whine, nag or bitch.
(That would be me...)

But that was a long time ago and it was just that one day.

THE END

We used to be able to send a variety of different sized envelopes for a standard price, first class or second class. Now they have introduced different prices for different envelopes, it's a nightmare trying to figure out what the cost will be and now instead of being able to just buy the stamps anywhere if it is bigger than A5 you have to go to the post office to buy the stamps. Not that easy when they are closing the post offices and you don't live or work near one.

Oops, today isn't my day to be chilled either is it.

After dealing with CTT Correios for a year I realize now how expensive Canada Post is. It's almost as outrageous as Air Canada!!

Charging more for bigger stuff I understand, but smaller? Weird. Well, I've decided what I'm going to attempt for my Secret Santa recipient, just wish them luck cause it involves me cooking. (yes, you did just feel a great tremor in the Force) ;-)

That is a lovely story about you--it nearly had me in tears.

The US Postal Service does the same thing with envelope-sizing. So now that more people have to go to the post office, they've cut back on workers.

Most shocking to me is the cost of mailing a postcard from Canada--98 cents CDN!

The US Postal Service seems to up postal rates about every two weeks. We have moved to online bill paying and online banking... we even buy STAMPS online for the few things we mail.

I think my wife has given up on mailing Christmas cards and she won't stoop to sending "e-cards". I should dust off the "HUMBUG" sign and see if it still lights up.

Canadian rates are expensive. Our rates are comparatively low, but then again, the USPS is always on the brink of bankruptcy.

StJude: Bah, I just had one good day and it passed, so no worries. :-)

tNb: It is ridiculously expensive that's for sure!

Marius: Weird, indeed. I'll wish you luck and them as well! ;-)

Charlie: Bet you didn't get that from reading my blog!

The 98 cents is the standard stuff to the States if it's in their size, of course!

kara: I guess... hey, we can ask, right?

Robert: I'm not ready to give up on cards just yet, 'cause I love to receive them.

flurrious: ah! That might explain why!

Extra postage on a small envelope?! That's insanity. I have yet to even fill out my Christmas cards. I was all excited in November when I bought them, but December seems to have sucked the energy out of me.

Are you serious? That's crazy! I don't get that at all. I think mailing them in regular envelopes was quite ingenious of you!
