I never thought I'd do this, and yet...

... I just had to even if it broke my heart...

Last week, as I drove to a client something caught my eye on the right side of the road. There was a snow bank and some slush so I thought maybe I saw something that wasn't really there. As I drove home that evening I kept an eye out and saw it again. It wasn't a chunk of snow/ice with a weird familiar shape it was in fact a dead pet.

Today as I drove back to that client I looked for that form again, and saw it again. It broke my heart. I had to do something, so when I got to my client I informed him he would be helping me later on to pick up that poor critter.

When my work was done, early afternoon, we picked up a shovel and a bag and made out way there. As we drove by I still couldn't tell if it was a cat or a dog; it was fluffy. As we actually walked to it, we saw that it was a kitty. It was a big, beautiful black and white cat. It deserved a little more dignity than laying there as a road kill...

How can the people living in the house, right in front of it (we even parked in their driveway), not pick it up? It may not be their cat, and yes it was dead and nothing could be done, but come on!

That beautiful cat was someone's pet and was (most likely) loved. If something was to happen to my cat I wouldn't want it to be left roadside, frozen solid in a dirty snow bank. It deserves more than that even if it died a horrible death...

One of Hubby's cousins carries a shovel, bag and gloves in her car's trunk and picks up road victims like this (I don't know if she still does, but she used to...). I did think she was a bit of a dork for "caring" so much, but after seeing this dead cat for two weeks roadside, I don't think she is. I'm not saying I'm ready to get "equipped" for this, but thinking about this poor kitty makes my insides shake. Maybe I'm just becoming dorkier myself, but I do believe animals deserve a little dignity...

You did the right thing. I'm sure the owner would have wanted that too.

That is incredibly noble of you, I can't say I know too many people that would do that, even as heart wrenching as it is to see the kitty lying there. You have loads of dignity.

AAAwwwwww... You absolutely did the right thing. A precious pet that someone loved certainly does deserve more dignity than just laying by the side of the road. Brought a tear to my eye and makes me think. Kudos to you!!!!

That was a wonderful thing to do. If God forbid, one of my animals were to get out and be killed I would hope that someone would do the same thing. Pets are family.
